Plateliai Soviet Nuclear Weapon Site is one of the first nuclear missile base of the Soviet Union built under great secrecy in 1960. From here missiles were targeted towards the biggest European cities including Berlin, London, Madrid and Paris.
Now this first Soviet underground launch site opens its grim corridors and tunnels for guided tours. It is possible to climb through the narrow hatch and see one of the silos. The 27-meter-deep mine shaft and underground tunnels are impressive and rather frightening.
As a complete contrast see the most beautiful site of the National Park, crystal clear waters of the lakes, and try traditional dishes in a Lithuania pub.
Glen, Seabourn Cruises –
The Soviet Nuclear Missile Base was indeed a unique place and our guide was perfect. So, if you have the chance to go there, don’t miss it.
